Jacksonville State Gamecocks (0-0) vs Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (0-0)

I think the wrong team is favored here. Jax State is playing with revenge, but I still think Coastal's program is in better shape going into the season despite losing star QB Grayson McCall. Noah Kim or Ethan Vasko will take over at QB for the Chanticleers and while there are some uncertainties in the WR game, the OL and RB group looks deep for Coastal. I am not worried about the Coastal offense at all. The question will be if Jax State can replicate its potent run game from 2023. The Gamecocks ran the ball 50 times per game last year and averaged over 230 rushing yards per contest as well. That was with Zion Webb at QB and Malik Jackson/Ron Wiggins leading the way at HB. Webb and Jackson have graduated while Wiggins is out long-term with a torn ligament. Jax State returns a lot of production, but I think that offense takes some time to get going and I am not necessarily a believer in Logan Smothers quite yet. When you look back to 2023, the games in which Smothers got a lot of action at QB so happened to be the worst offensive performances of the season for Jax State. I think Coastal wins this game outright on the road, so I will take the field goal with the Chanticleers.
