Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-0) vs Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks (1-0)

UT Martin is flying under the radar to start 2023-24 and Mississippi State's methodical, defense-first style does not bode well for covering large spreads like this against competent teams in my opinion. Mississippi State looked strong vs. ASU in game one, but that W has pushed the Bulldogs into overvalued territory. UT Martin's team is loaded with D1 experience and experience in the UT Martin/Ryan Ridder system. The Skyhawks took care of business against their subdivision opponent 104-76 despite Champion Christian nailing 15 3's for just under 40%. UT Martin scored sustainable buckets in the win and had scoring efforts from the bench as well. UT Martin will need to take better care of the basketball going forward, but those TO issues were more from the bench as the starters only combined for four all game. I like Mississippi State and was really impressed with its win over ASU, but its offense is not potent nor fast enough to warrant this large spread. Mississippi State is already ranked 321st in adjusted tempo and unless the Bulldogs shoot the lights out of the gym this should be a game that finishes much closer to 15 points than 20. Give me the UT Martin Skyhawks here.
