Chicago Cubs (29-23) vs San Diego Padres (34-20)
Monday, May 31, 2021 at 2:20 pm
At 2:20 pm, our selection is on the San Diego Padres over the Chicago Cubs. After a very rough month of April that saw him log a 1-3 record with a 5.40 ERA in five starts, Padres RHP Chris Paddack has turned things around in May. In four starts this month, Paddack is 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA and sub-1.00 WHIP, and he has 14 strikeouts and four walks in his 19 innings. More important is the fact that the Padres are 4-0 in those starts and they have out-scored the opposition by a very lopsided 42-6 in those games. Paddack would like to end the month in the same manner that he's done throughout and hopefully carry that momentum over to June. The Cubs are playing some very good ball right now, having won six of their last seven games. But six of those seven were against the likes of the Pirates and Reds so San Diego should present a much tougher test this afternoon. Paddack's only other start against the Cubbies was a good one -- six scoreless innings allowing three hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in a win. Take the Padres. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
