Seattle Mariners (57-49) vs Los Angeles Angels (44-61)

I get why some may shy away from the Mariners or wonder why the big price tag with Seattle after Robbie Ray was shelled in his last couple of starts, posting a 9.49 ERA in his last three starts. Well it’s important to remember that the two most recent starts came against a Houston Astros team that’s been swinging a hot bat and has had Ray’s number, and the first start, Ray allowed just three runs over 6.2 innings. Prior to the start against Houston, Ray allowed one earned run or less in five straight home starts, totalling just three runs allowed over 34.2 innings for a 0.79 ERA. The Angels on the other hand, did what the Angels do best on Thursday in getting run over by Oakland, losing that series and now start Patrick Sandoval, who at one point was looking like the Angels #2 starter behind Shohei Ohtani, but now, the Angels have lost his last six starts and nine of his last ten. For Sandoval it’s mostly been he can pitch well but the offense doesn’t back him up or when the offense rarely comes, he gets beat up or neither happens and he gets shelled while the offense stays home. Either way, the Mariners are feeling themselves off of their series win over the Yankees and while this could feel like a letdown spot for some, the Mariners don’t know what that feels like as they’ve had to keep up the same intensity from day one. I think the Mariners pick up the win here on the -1.5 run line in this one.
