George Mason Patriots
The Patriots only lost two of their first nine games this year, falling to Charlotte and Tennessee. George Mason would then hit a six-game win streak over Loyola MD, Bridgewater VA, Tulane, North Carolina A&T, La Salle and Saint Louis before falling to VCU and Richmond in consecutive games.
On Saturday versus Richmond, the Patriots were outscored 43-32 in the first half. George Mason gained a little ground in the second half on a 38-34 run but still lost 77-70. Leading the team in the losing effort was Darius Maddox with his 18 points, five rebounds and two assists.
George Washington Revolutionaries
Over on the George Washington side, they kicked off their season on a 6-2 run. The losses in that time were to UIC and South Carolina. Since then it’s been a 7-1 stretch with wins over Navy, Coppin State, Bowie State, Alcorn State, MD Eastern Shore, VCU and Davidson.
In the Davidson matchup over the weekend, the Revolutionaries scored 39 points in the first half and 36 in the second to force overtime. George Washington bagged an 8-4 advantage from there in an eventual 83-79 win. Tops in scoring was Garrett Johnson on 23 points and three rebounds.
ANDREW’S FREE GEORGE MASON VS GEORGE WASHINGTON PREDICTION
I’ll stick with George Washington. The Revolutionaries are coming off a solid win over a pretty good Davidson team, shooting 47 percent from the field with 38 rebounds and 15 team assists. That makes 83 or more points in three straight games for George Washington, and a nice 69 or more points in eight consecutive outings.
As for George Mason, they’ve had a rough time over the past couple of games but they’re still scoring well in general. The Patriots have hit 69 or more points in six of their last seven so it wouldn’t be surprising to see this one finish as a high total. Ultimately I like George Washington to pull off the cover/win, though.
