Alabama State Hornets (6-13) vs Texas Southern Tigers (6-14)
Monday, January 23, 2023 at 8:30 pm
It may be surprising to see the road team that is 2-5 in the conference as a few point favorite over the home team that is 4-2 in the conference, but that is how good Texas Southern can be when near full strength. Joirdon Karl Nicholas and Pj Henry were out for Texas Southern for quite some time and the team was struggling mightily because of it, but now with both back in the lineup last game, we saw what Texas Southern is really made of and the Tigers earned wins over Jackson State and Alabama A&M. Neither one of these teams have shot the ball well in 2022-23, but Texas Southern's suffocating defense has a big edge in this game compared to the sieve of Alabama State. While Alabama State is getting good looks on the court and should start making its shots at a better rate (which we are already starting to see) the Hornets still have issues getting blocked. Alabama State is ranked 360th in block % on offense and that bodes well for an aggressive frontcourt defense that Texas Southern implements. Texas Southern should be sharper on the defensive glass and limit the second-chance opportunities for Alabama State here. Texas Southern's offense has looked promising as of late and I think the Tigers can put together another win and cover on the road here. Give me Texas Southern laying the points, as I think TSU wins this one by 10.
For those of you who would like to watch tonight's game, usually Alabama State does a live stream on its YouTube channel for home games and the channel is titled "Alabama State Sports". This game starts at 8:30 pm EST, but sometimes SWAC games are delayed a little while to allow for the women's games to finish. Good luck and thanks for your support!
