LA Angels (24-38) vs Houston Astros (28-35)

This is a play on the LOS ANGELES ANGELS as part of our MLB Friday Triple Play. The Angels come in as huge home underdogs because of opponent name and opponent starting pitching name but neither have lived up to expectations. Additionally, the Angels just are not very good but they are coming off a sweep of San Diego and are in a good matchup spot. Houston opened the season very slow then put together a nice run in mid-May where it went 8-1 over a nine-game stretch which looked to be a much needed turning point in the season but the Astros have gone 8-10 over their last 18 games and sit seven games under .500 with the -17 units more troubling showing how overpriced they continue to be. Framber Valdez has been dominant since entering the Astros rotation full time in 2020 and while his 3.95 ERA this season is not horrible, something is not right. After posting a positive year-to-year change the last two seasons in strikeout rate, it is down 5.9 percent from last season and the current 18.9 percent K rate is the lowest of his career. His Whiff% is also the lowest at 23.7 percent which ranks him in the bottom third percentile. The Angels are 8-4 against lefty starters. Griffin Canning got off to a bad start but has posted a 3.26 ERA over his last nine starts. 10* (966) Los Angeles Angels
